Moving, Work, Life

Well if you are wondering why we are slacking on our blogging these days it is because we are getting ready to move this weekend. We are moving into our first house on Saturday. Janna is doing a great job of packing and she said Stone has been really good at helping.
Van is getting big. When he is on his belly, he pushes himself up to where his hips are off the floor so he can see what is going on. He has a death grip. He likes to grab everything and watch out if his fingernails are long.

I am still working on the Palazzo Verdi building in Greenwood Village, CO. Since I got here I have helped supervise the placing of about 4000 Cubic yards of concrete. These are pictures of some of the recent pours we have done. Above is a 1 foot thick slab on the first floor. It took 210 cubic yards of concrete to complete.

On the upper floors we do topping slabs. These are set to a finished floor elevation and then power-troweled. The trowel you see above is the burner. He trowels at a high speed and actually gives it a burned-in finish that is so shiny it is reflective like Zambonied ice. This picture above is the building after they finished placing all of the structural pieces of precast, or the "shell." That is a concrete pumper pumping up concrete to the 11th floor. We have only 2 more topping slabs to do on the building which will be tomorrow and Friday.

This piece was left out so several pieces of mechanical equipment could go inside using the crane. This piece had just been setting on the roof, waiting to take its place. Technically once it was put in, the structural shell was complete. I was one of the few who actually saw it.Ever wonder what it looks like from the top of a crane? Here you go. I was actually in the building, but it is a good view from the top down. These are the front pieces for the entry way canopy. They were the final precast pieces on the job. They aren't structural pieces, just cosmetic and to keep the precipitation off of the entry way. This was the pour this morning. You can see the crane and concrete pump were in pretty tight quarters. The crane had to finish setting the canopy and the pump only has access through the front curtain windows. Everything worked out fine.

Poor Parenting #5

We have been actively looking for a house to move into after our lease is up in mid November. A week or so ago Van was so hungry that he got up out of his carseat, got his own bottle ready, sat back down, and downed the thing. He has since forgiven us.

I Need A Vacation

It has been a busy week for me. I have been in the office all week doing & learning month-end. It is a cumulation of cost reports, number crunching, quantifying, bill-paying, etc. I am learning it as best I can because the person training me has learned that he is going down to Colorado Springs for at least a month to train 3 new engineers. Colorado Springs has more work than they can handle right now so they need him.

Van hit 6 weeks old on Wednesday. Janna took some pictures of the boys this week but they are on the other camera. I will try to have her download them and put them on the blog. She also had her 6 week checkup at the doctor and they said everything looks good. Now if we could get Van to sleep longer than 3 hours at a time we will be doing well. We have all been a little slower this week with head-colds, including Van. He has had to sleep sitting up in his car seat so he doesn't choke on his mucus.

Janna's sister Carin had a baby this week. Her name is Shae Lynn Garner. That makes 4 girls. The pictures she sent show a beautiful little baby. She had an epidural for the first time and I heard she really liked it. Congratulations Carin, Trent, Abby, Bryn, & Leah.

We are missing the beach house this year in Newport Beach, CA. It causes mild depression when we think about it. I need that break. The memories of it get me through the rest of the year. It starts tomorrow. Have fun everybody.

Ready To Get Out Of Here

Hi again. We are at the hospital still just waiting to be discharged. The pediatrician wanted Van to eat a couple more times before he went home. He is eating right now though so we should be able to head home after Janna eats dinner. Van has very thick, blonde hair. Everything has gone well thus far for both Janna and Van. He sleeps a lot and so does she. All of Van's tests have gone well and he is a normal little boy. He has lost about 5 ounces since birth but is eating well now so he should be fine.

On a side note, we were happy to see Blake Lewis make the American Idol finals. Melinda was good but she's no Blake. We are pretty bored here at the hospital. Janna is ready to go home. Elaine is running out of things to do with the boys and they want to see mommy and Van. Hey, what about me?
