A Very Happy Easter Indeed

A few months ago I was approached by a company via a good friend from my days at BYU. He knew I was in Denver b/c of Facebook. He told me his company was looking to hire a manager in Denver that could take over their operations and marketing.

My first inclination was to learn more so that I could tell friends about it who might be looking for employment. After all, I had a solid job with security. We spoke at length about it and the more I heard, the more curious I got about looking into it myself. So ultimately I sent them my resume.

A few weeks later I was contacted by one of the partners and he asked if we could sit down and discuss it when he came to town. Some time later we sat down over lunch and had a good conversation. He told me more of what was expected, the opportunity that was here in Denver and the ability to be a part of something that he had already been successful at doing.

Thursday the other partners flew me to Oakland. We had a great day, I learned more about them, watched how they communicated, watched the dynamics between the two brothers, how they treat their employees, how their employees reacted, small things that made a difference. I was very pleased with what I saw. Their employees are very loyal to them and they are in turn as loyal to their employees. I was able to talk individually to several of the other managers and hear what they had to say about the partners, the company, their roles as managers, their satisfaction, concerns, likes, dislikes, etc. I was convinced that this was as good a fit for me as they thought I might be for it.

Friday I received an offer from them which I accepted. I am very excited to see what this change will bring and grateful for the last 2.5 years of experience with Kiewit. A lot of you have had us in your prayers the last few weeks and we are so grateful to be surrounded by such good friends.

We have had an enjoyable weekend with our good news about the job. We were able to go to a couple of Easter Egg Hunts and have our good friends, the Dickmans, over last night for dinner, Easter Egg decorating, and some UFC fights(yes the wives watched w/ us while the kids played upstairs).

Today at church we had 2 excellent speakers and the choir (I'm a tenor) sang two songs. It was very enjoyable. Our friend Tracy came over on short notice after church and took a few pictures (above) for us with all of the boys in their white shirts and ties. Thanks Tracy. Also Congratulations to our friends Wes & Catherine. They welcomed their 2nd son Cooper into their family this week to join Jacob.
